Social Work is a working area which aims to increase the life qualities of individuals, families, groups, and community by changing conditions or providing more efficient exploitation of the current situation. Practitioners of the area, called social workers, endeavour for planning and implementation of the social policies and programs which improve the capacity of individuals, families, groups and communities in coping with the problems. According to the International Federation of Social Workers; an approach which respects international values as well as the national values should be followed in determining the social work activities while giving priority to the needs of the country. Besides the issues focused by social works are universal in general, the practices have priorities which diversify from country to country and time to time depending on the cultural, historical, and socio-economic conditions. Human rights and social justice-based policies of the profession represent both national and international ethical values. Istanbul Arel University Department of Social Work considers all of these definitions, principles and objectives as providing training for its students. While determining the program future social workers are aimed to gain scientific theoretical knowledge they need in order to adopt ethical values required by the profession and have enough practice of application so as to satisfy self-confidence in their first steps as they begin to the professional life. Department of Social Work offers a 4-year bachelor's degree.
